Introduction To Sustainable Construction

Free practical course starting in Bristol June 2015

Are you interested in learning skills in construction, carpentry and other practical building activities? nDo you have an interest in sustainability and the environment? Would you like to gain experience and support to work in the construction industry? If so, this course may be for you.

This summer Red Kite Design and Build are constructing an eco-friendly building for Edible Futures, who are Bristol based organic farm. It will be built using various sustainable building materials, including straw bales, clay and lime plasters, timber and a living roof.

What does the course involve?

The course will be 4 days a week for 3 weeks, and you will have the opportunity to work as part of

an experienced team, learning skills in:

•Carpentry

•Groundworks

•Plastering

•Rendering

•Roofing

•Straw bale building

•Creating a living roof

You may also get the opportunity to sit a CITB exam in order to get your CSCS card which is

essential for any job in construction.

Who is it for?

For people aged 25 or under. No previous experience is necessary, but an interest in practical work, construction or sustainability and the environment would be desirable.

What next?

Through the course you will be supported in exploring what trade you would like to work in, looking for job opportunities and applying for jobs relevant to you.

Where?

The course will be based at Feed Bristol, Frenchay Park Road, Bristol, BS16 1HB.

When?

There will be a Taster Day on the 3rd June, 1 till 3pm at the address above, and then 2 courses will run from 8 - 26th June and from 6 - 24th July. It is required that you attend the Taster Day if you wish to come on the course.
