Eco Greenhouse from plastic bottles

In 2012 we worked with the community at Fern Street Community Garden in East London to create this striking greenhouse made from plastic bottles.

The community  created a community growing space in a disused area next to a gasworks, aided by a Groundwork London grant.  There were some highly motivated individuals really making it happen there which was very inspiring and they got involved in the greenhouse build and learnt construction skills.  Lots of children got involved, helping to prepare the bottles and learning how to use tools safely.

The greenhouse was designed as a six sided ‘summerhouse’ with shelving incorporated.  All timber used came from Leaside Wood Recycling Project, and was treated with linseed oil.  The bottles largely came from local pubs.

The final bottle assembling has been left to the community group.
