Summerleaze farm straw bale cottage

The building was deisgned to fit in with the vernacular farmyard setting while also celebrating that it is built out of straw. The building compromises a large bedroom, with en suite bathroom. Large double doors connect the space with the view across the Wiltshire farm.

The building features concrete free foundations made from rammed recycled car tyres. The building was constructed using the load bearing straw method, but also a wall built out of hemp and clay. Clay taken from the site was used to create an earth floor for the main room.
