Pitney Farm Cafe

In summer 2017 we delivered this rural cafe and restaurant in south Somerset. The brainchild of Lily farmer, who runs the cafe, and supported by Rob and Lizzie Walrond who run the farm, the cafe serves organic food mostly produced on the farm itself, providing high quality meals (plus great coffee) and championing local and environmentally friendly produce. It was a great opportunity to be able to help this project to come to fruition , through our construction of this timber framed and timber clad building to house the cafe.  We aimed to work with the farmyard aesthetic whilst making a simple yet striking build finish.  We used a mixture of cladding styles in combination with a smooth steel roof system, and tried to maximise the space and light inside with an open, barn-like  feel whilst maintaining high levels of sheepswool insulation. We minimised our impact in the foundation stage by using reclaimed brick piers sitting on limecrete pad style foundations.  As well as minimising our own waste, we hope to minimise the waste of customers, by installing a comfortable compost loo in the cafe.  We had a great time staying down at the farm and are missing it already.
