Straw bale house, Hartland, Devon
Design and Consultancy - For this beautiful house in Hartland we worked with a self builder to develop the project from planning stage through to completed construction drawings for a straw bale house. We worked flexibly with client and engineer to satisfy the technical requirements of a sustainable build whilst enabling the client to design their dream space. The house was based upon a hybrid method of straw bale construction, and utilised large douglas fir truss sections to create a double height living space.
Build – We went on site to deliver the straw bale and plastering elements of the build, which was finished with a mix of earth plaster and lime plaster sections internally, and a lime render scratch coat externally, covered by vertical larch cladding and slate, to give the walls maximum protection in this very exposed location.
