This housing project was undertaken during the winter of 2015 to 2016. The idea was to create an adaptable space for modern living on a small urban plot, while still using local and natural materials. The house was constructed using a Walter Segal style timber frame on a concrete free foundation, insulated with sheeps wool insulation and wood fibre board. A living roof and solar panels form the roof. A lot of reclaimed wood was used in the finishes for the project, including king pins, from the original warehouse that was on the site, which were used to build the bed. Locally grown and milled larch was using for the cladding and fascia. We at Red Kite also undertook the garden design and build, using reclaimed timber and bricks from the original building.
